Rasmus Lehmann Hylleberg

Rasmus Lehmann Hylleberg (b. 1987) is the creator of Denmark’s first journalistic onlinemedia about law, K-NEWS.dk. Since 2017, he has worked hard to make the law more accessible to even more people through journalistic communication of legal issues, rule of law, legislation and human rights through both written articles, podcasts and events.

He graduated in journalism and Danish literature/media studies from RUC in 2014, and has since worked as both a tv-journalist and press officer for the museum group ROMU. Since 2017, he has held the position as Head of Journalism & Media Content at Karnov Group, and as Editor-in-Chief of K-NEWS.dk.

Rasmus Lehmann Hylleberg hosts the podcast series The Triangle of Power. You can listen to the podcast series here

Rasmus is also an external examiner for the journalism master’s degree programs at RUC and Aarhus University.
His expertise is particularly strong in the following topics:

Rule of law
Rule of law is an undefined concept, but nonetheless a topic that is constantly under pressure – both when it comes to citizens’ encounters with municipal case processing, when defendants are held in custody for years before conviction and when defendants in criminal cases must have a strong defense. Rasmus Hylleberg also has a special insight into the interaction between courts and legislators, including how the process behind the political agreements on the courts’ finances is put together. A process he has followed closely on K-NEWS.dk.

Human rights
In Denmark, human rights are not written directly into specific sections of Danish law. Nevertheless, human rights are a recurring discussion in Denmark, as the practice of the European Court of Human Rights is becoming more and more extensive and seen from many sides more activist. But human rights are also important in an increasingly global worldview, where several nations around the world ignore human rights for their own gain.

Case law
There is not much room for concrete analysis of court rulings in Danish media. It’s difficult to read a judgment, and it’s hard to extract the most important points from a live TV broadcast. Rasmus Lehmann Hylleberg has in-depth experience in communicating the analysis and meaning of decisions, and through K-NEWS’ regular podcast format, he has put court cases and verdicts under the microscope on several occasions to convey the complexities.

Technology
Technology is also impacting the law – what does it mean for legal certainty if AI replaces judges in the courtroom? Many parts of the legal landscape are embracing technology, but it also comes with a lot of challenges and concerns.

An attentive and informal moderator
Rasmus takes pride in always coming well prepared, and an important part of the moderator role for him is always to have long talks with the organizers before the event – what are the expectations for the outcome and what is the story for them?

A successful event is one where the audience leaves smarter and where the guests all feel that they have had their say. It’s all about creating a dynamic between guests, and that dynamic needs to be felt by the audience.

Rasmus prefers to moderate in Danish.
